Worldtek Travel Acquired by Industry Veteran Doug Knight

New Haven, CT, January 22, 2006 – Travel industry veteran, Douglas Knight has acquired the assets of New Haven based Worldtek Travel. Previously owned and operated by brothers Vito “Topper” Luciani and the late Ken Luciani, Worldtek has been in operation since 1966 as one of New England’s premiere travel management companies. Known for its diversified sectors in corporate, collegiate, athletic, charter, meeting planning and vacation travel, Worldtek operates in over 25 locations nationwide. Current clients include Timex, Assa Abloy, Major League Baseball, National Association of Basketball Coaches, IMG, Yale University, Rutgers University, University of Connecticut and Duke University.

The sale of Worldtek results in three divisions: Corporate Travel (including online booking capabilities) Collegiate Travel (providing Charter Air and Fan Travel), and ResRunner.

ResRunner is a separate company which provides a proprietary software tool offering a fully customizable system of online registration tools for events of any size. Internet based, ResRunner requires no downloads and provides users with custom designed registration pages, secure online payment processing, report production and instant confirmation and ongoing communication with event attendees. Reports are provided in real-time, offering the most current information. Clients using ResRunner may increase revenue and efficiencies by eliminating expensive mailings and time incurred on data entry. Event planners can receive additional assistance in organizing events by contracting with Worldtek for ancillary event planning services such as site selection, contract negotiation and on-site management.

“Wordtek’s growth potential is tremendous, and this acquisition is indicative of my belief that it fills a huge void left in the marketplace,” explains Knight. “Travel management options have eroded. Former major regional leaders such as Robustelli, Rosenbluth and Navigant Intentional are gone. They have been swallowed by mega agencies. Our goal for Worldtek is to bring back choices for the customer, offering a myriad of inter-related services geared towards operating efficiencies and cost-containment for the entire T&E process.”

“The industry is now inundated with tremendously large agencies where the ability to truly customize programs for each client based on their unique needs is becoming more and more difficult. Worldtek provides its clients with an a flat, empowered organization that is creative using both technology and intellectual capital – and does so without a hefty corporate infrastructure that typically delays a swift response to the individual needs of each client. Worldtek provides creative solutions to clients with an entrepreneurial spirit that is long gone in the market.

Knight brings to Worldtek a distinctive perspective derived from his tenure at American Airlines, Sabre/ADS, Associated/Cardillo Travel in Los Angeles, McGregor Travel and Navigant International. As one of the principals of McGregor, Knight took the company public and, along with ten other regional agencies, formed Navigant International, recently purchased by Carlson Wagonlit Travel where he served as Navigant’s founding president and chief operating officer.
